It was a perfect fall evening in September of 2018 when our world came to a halt. Our 8 month old son Rhett stopped breathing and was taken to our local Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Fort Wayne.
While there we discovered that he had refluxed and aspiration had caused his throat to close off oxygen. He then went into surgery to place a feeding tube in and a band around his stomach to stop the reflux and control the aspiration into his lungs.
Luckily we had a small device called an Owlet at home that notified us that Rhett’s oxygen levels had dropped below 80%. A year and 1/2 later we are walking out of our critical care Doctors office for the last time and feeding tube free!!! It’s been a long road and this little boy is the strongest person I know. He’s graduated and doing so well he’s no longer dependent on a feeding tube and is in the 50th percentile for his hight and weight.
Without our owlet and the Knox Blocks Foundation I truly don’t know where we’d be today. I will forever be grateful and will continue to tell our story in hopes to spread awareness.
Our babies need our help. They are to small to tell us when something is wrong. Be their voice and share the importance of having an owlet on every little foot.
Everything comes together in time. When we bought our new home 2 years ago I was excited to start styling and decorating right away. I quickly discovered that I had a lot of space to fill. We had moved from our small lake cottage to a larger home closer to town. I wanted affordable, good quality items. I started looking at Amazon and other retailers like Wayfair and Target for my home styling needs. While there are a lot of other competitors that also have great styles, I was most pleased with these for their affordability and what they offer me as a customer. Wayfair has great customer service, style and the prices are hard to beat. I can always expect to see my packages in as little as 2 days and even have seen my items ship within an hour of ordering! I like Target because its local and if i want to see the products before i buy them i can always check them out the next time I’m in town shopping. Amazon has just about everything and a large variety. I love the Prime 2 day shipping and the ability to read the reviews and compare for myself on products.
First is my Computer desk and chair. I had a pretty good idea on what I was looking for in a desk. I wanted something with a hutch for storage. A sliding keyboard tray to conserve space, and something elegant and simple to match the modern country chic style in my home. Curtains are also from Wayfair. Chair is a Serta memory foam Home chair from Amazon. Throw and plant holder from Amazon.
I often find myself scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram looking for inspiration for around my home. A few bloggers I follow have shared some key items I really adore from WayFair. When the Way Day sale was going on I knew that now was my time to snag them up! First is my 30″ Eisenhauer Wall clock. Its lightweight and looks amazing hanging in my home. I have a fairly large wall in my living room that was a little difficult to fill with an ordinary wall clock so this fits perfect. This crafted metal clock looks sharp and stands out nicely against my walls. The distressed gray color matches perfect with my other decor and is a real statement piece when you enter the room. Flower pots, pillow cover and throw all from Amazon.
My son just turned a year old and I’ve been looking into some items for his nursery to help convert it as he grows. I believe that reading is an important part of a child’s growth and development. When I saw this Wall organizer at Wayfair I thought it would make a great bookshelf. Its metal baskets help keep all his books organized and cuts down on the clutter on the floor. I really love the black finish that gives it a more contemporary look. The Tee Pee I found on Amazon and fits perfect with the theme of his room. Its a pretty good size and great quality. Decorative felt garland also from Amazon and really helps tie everything together.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you’ve enjoyed some of my favorites from around my home! Happy shopping and I hope you have a great week!
I was standing in my oldest daughters room helping her get ready for prom. Watching her and wondering where the time had gone. I blinked and she was not a little girl anymore and I was looking at an almost grown woman. The flowing white dress was hanging in the corner next to her shoes. Her hair was done beautifully and we just finished her makeup. I felt so many emotions and excitement for her. I was beaming with pride at this wonderful person in front of me. An immeasurable beauty and brilliant mind. She is the one you can count on for anything. More adult than most adults. An outstanding student and athlete. It was in this moment I began to see her doubt herself and her beauty. She started questioning everything about herself as she stared back at her reflection in the mirror. She was picking herself apart and her smile had vanished.
My heart began to sink. I was taken aback by what she was saying. I was wondering how such an amazing confident girl could doubt herself even for a second. I reassured her that everything was perfect and she looked wonderful. As I fought back tears I was pushing a smile so not to let her see my heart breaking for her. I remembered in that moment all the times I’ve doubted myself. I was guilty of doing the same thing all too often. Why do we do this to ourselves? Why are we so unable to see the good? Why is it so natural to want to pick ourselves apart and be so critical? The doubt, the fear and letting our children see as we dwell on our flaws. My legs, my hair, I hate my nose….. whatever it is that bothers us about ourselves is passed down to our children like a curse.
The moment we show them its ok to love ourselves is when we stop the cycle. Confidence is important in raising girls. We need to pass down the value of taking control of our self confidence. Show them that it is better to love what we have instead of wanting to change it. Social media has such an impact on our children that even from a young age they are pushed towards a spotlight. They see a false portrayal of what beauty really is and what it means. The online influence is creating a problem with every edit and photoshop they use. We need to show our girls more about being confident in themselves. Its ok to love everything about us. Let our daughters see the confidence in ourselves as their mothers. Break the cycle of negativity in our own reflections. Its the differences in all of us that makes us each special. Loving ourselves will allow us to grow and truly love what we see in each other too. ~
Get excited because today I’m talking about shoes!!! Now that we’ve finally put away the winter boots for good we can pull out all those summer shoes from last year. As you dust them off and line them all up you might need some fresh new pairs to add to your collection. While I still have a couple that I love from last summer, some could be updated and others could just be THROWN OUT! I’m sure we all have a few that have seen better days, so why not add some fresh new pairs? A girl can never have to many shoes so today I’m going to show you a few of my recent favorite buys.
First I want to tell you about the Gordie Sandal by Sam Edelman. I love the studded detail on these. This sandal gets an A+ from me because of its style and comfort. The strap on these is a beige patent leather and makes it easy to match with just about anything. This sandal also comes in 4 colors. You can’t go wrong with these!
With summer right around the corner your calendar might be quickly filling up like mine. From weddings and graduations to birthday parties and baby showers I decided to update a few of my dress shoes for a more modern looking sandals this summer. The Cary Sandal by Dolce Vita is so cute I honestly had a hard buying just one. I could wear these in every color!
Now switching gears a little I have a slip-on sneaker I bought last fall in anticipation for this spring/summer. If you’re anything like me then you’ll be spending a lot of time at the ball field too. These slip-on Chuck Taylor Converse are perfect for sporty, stylish comfort. I really like the no tie shoes and it really come in handy for a busy mom on the go. I would go up half a size in these to make sure you have room if wearing no-show socks.
Sole Society has some super cute and trendy looks for this summer that can be easily added into any wardrobe. I was always a little reluctant to order shoes online without trying them on first. A helpful tip I’ve found is to read the reviews before you order. You can find out if they fit TTS (true to size) or if they run big or small depending on the style. I usually go with whatever the majority say on sizing and its worked well for me so far. I went down half a size and ordered a 8 in these and they feel a little roomy but i wouldn’t go down anymore in this style. These Koa fringe flats are so comfortable! The color makes them easy to go with a verity of items in my wardrobe. The placement of the fringe is trendy, subtle and not to dramatic. Super cute! I love these!
These next pair are also Sole Society. The studded look is very popular this season and this pair will not disappoint! You can dress them up with a spring dress or romper and wear more casual with shorts and jeans. I ordered my regular size 8.5 in these and they are perfect!! They are little slippery on the bottom but I’m hoping with a little wear it won’t be a problem. These are definitely my new favorite look for summer!
Thanks for reading and I hope you’ve enjoyed this try-on! Have a great week and Happy Shopping!!
Thinking of some fun new summer jeans and Shorts?!
With summer right around the corner you may already be looking for some new jean options for spring/summer. From kids sports games to cookouts and graduation parties, I’m sharing some of my latest buys form American Eagle.
My first pair is a dark wash that you can dress up or dress down for whatever occasion. From day time activities with the kids to a nigh out with friends, this pair is very versatile for summer. This jean looks great with flip flops and sneakers or dressing them up with a stylish wedges or heal. These super high-waist crop jeggings are great. Soft and comfortable and I really like the crop cuff at the bottom. I went up a size from my regular size 4 to a size 6 in this pair. For reference I’m 5″5 125 lbs. I decided to go with a size 6 because the jeggings fit a little more snug than the Next level stretch.
This next pair I wasn’t sure about on-line but when they came in I really loved them! The color is perfect and the raw cut at the bottom is really trendy and cuffs up nicely for more of a crop look. I also went with a size 6 in these jeggings as well and I’m really glad i did. This pair can also be dressed up or down. I personally like them with an off the sholder top and a slim sleek looking sandal.
I Have to tell you that this next pair of jeans completely tops my list of all time most comfortable jean I have ever owned! I almost feel like I’m cheating on my leggings in these. I first bought the Tomgirl jean for the style alone but quickly fell in love with how soft and lightweight they are. I could honestly wear these everyday. I like to style them with sandals and a tee for a more casual everyday look. This is a low-rise rise jean and stays comfortably on the waist. I wear my regular size 4 in these because of the relaxed fit and they are perfect. EVERYONE should run out and get themselves a pair of these jeans. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Next I have a few pairs of shorts that I can’t live without! The first pair is a super light wash high waited that I actually went up to an 8 in just so the fit wasn’t so short. I like my shorts to fit a little bigger and to hit more around the waist to keep them from ridding up. I also have other mom friends who go up a size or sometimes 2 in shorts and it works well for them too. Love, Love, Love the fringe at the bottom and the color is perfect for summer! The shade of wash really makes my tan stand out. I practically lived in this pair over our recent Florida vacation. I styled mine with a casual sandal and razor back tank for daytime and added a light weight cardigan and switched to a more slimming sandal for the night. Very comfortable and love the feel of these!
My second pair of shorts are a shade darker than the first pair I posted but still a pretty light color. The front detail has a charming touch of a lace on the pockets. These are so much fun and I get compliments every time I wear them. I also went to a size 8 on these as well. The fit is great and very comfortable. This pair is a style of shorts that are perfect for dressing up with a cute wedge but can really be worn a number of different ways for summer. The touch of lace gives it a more classy feel while the distressing also allows you to wear them more casually.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this try-on! Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a great week. Happy Shopping!!
